Myotherapy

As a Myotherapist I assess and physically treat myofascial pain, injuries and dysfunctions that are affecting the movement and mobility of the joints. And as a preventative measure to injuries, during the session the body is restore and maintain to the normal integrity of the soft tissue structure, such as the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia.

Symptoms

Muscle pain caused by muscle tissue or the fascia, which is called myofascial pain symptoms may be:

  • Deep and constant aching
  • Muscle tightness
  • Sore spots in the muscle (myofascial trigger points)
  • Reduced joint mobility
  • Stiff joints
  • Numbness
  • Recurrent tingling, prickling or ‘pins and needles’ sensation
  • Unexplained tiredness.

A Range of Disorders

Below is a range of disorder treated in a Myotherapy session:

  • Overuse injury such as tennis elbow or shin splints
  • Some sports injuries
  • Tension headache
  • Pain caused by poor posture
  • Some types of chronic back pain
  • Some types of joint pain, such as shoulder impingement syndrome
  • Muscle sprains.

Ongoing Management

In consultation with you, the myotherapist will identify factors that may be making your condition worse (such as poor posture, scoliosis or over training) and help you find ways to avoid or reduce these aggravating factors.

During your visit your condition will be assessed and steps taken to assist with your rehabilitation. After the session FREE muscle stretching sheets can be provided to assist with healing your injury. It is recommended that you continue these exercises at home to speed up the healing process.
